Scattered like a string of pearls across the Indian Ocean — low, bright, and impossibly blue.
The Maldives is barely above the water and all the more beautiful for it: turquoise lagoons over white sand, coral reefs alive beneath the surface, and a horizon that goes on without interruption.
The word އެކުވެރި — ekuveri — means companion, a friend woven close. It is how these islands have always lived: small communities, generous and resilient, holding together across open water. This little corner of the web is named for them.
